I'm getting LOUD for NextSense
After Archie’s first term at 4 year old kinder I noticed that he was falling behind rapidly. Bringing it to his teachers attention they gave me a list of specialist to contact told me good luck you won’t get in within the next 2 years and then they dismissed me. I wasn’t prepared to drop it nor was I prepared to wait 2 years for an answer. The first specialist on the list was a speech therapist, figuring that the first thing they would do in an initial consult was a hearing test I booked one for Archie. After that first test it was clear he had hearing loss, but as a precaution we were told to go back again and test once more to see if the result was different, it wasn’t. So here we were with a test that proved he was suffering from hearing loss and not sure what to do next. I rang a speech therapist and told them about the diagnosis and they got me in immediately. Not knowing the system or what to expect I had no idea what else to do. Luckily Hearing Australia contacted me and explained the next steps to take. Since then we have seen a ENT specialist and have done blood tests and an MRI because we still don’t know what has caused his hearing loss. He has upcoming appointments that I am hoping will tell us why he is suffering from the loss. In the meantime Archie has been fitted with a hearing aid and requires his teachers to use a Roger while he is at kinder. I advocated for him relentlessly before I finally got my answers, answers I’m still partly waiting on.
So I am fundraising to raise awareness and vital funds for children with hearing loss. Please help me get LOUD by donating to my page. All funds raised will assist in ensuring children with hearing loss, and their families, have access to the support they need to achieve their full potential.
